Steam Packet is best known for being the oldest shipping company in the world with a continuous passenger service. The company was founded in 1830 and is now owned by the Australian investment bank Macquarie Bank.

Connections

The fleet currently comprises two ships, the Ben-my-Chree and the HSC Manannan, which connect the Isle of Man with the ports of Birkenhead, Heysham and Liverpool in the UK, Belfast in Northern Ireland and Dublin in Ireland.

You should allow approximately the following time for the individual connections:

  • Isle of Man - Heysham: 3 hours 45 minutes
  • Isle of Man - Liverpool: 2 hours 45 minutes
  • Isle of Man - Belfast: 2 hours 45 minutes
  • Isle of Man - Birkenhead: 4 hours 45 minutes
  • Isle of Man - Dublin: 2 hours 55 minutes

Discounts

There are special discounts for day trips as well as for "Short Breaks" (outward and return journey within five days).

Children from 0 to 3 years are transported free of charge when accompanied by an adult. Children and young people aged 4 to 15 are also entitled to a reduced fare for the crossing.

Conditions of transportation

Passengers should arrive at check-in at least 25 minutes before departure. Those wishing to board by car should arrive at the car stand in the entrance area of the respective port 45 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

The port in Douglas is easily accessible by local bus. The nearest stop is about 400 meters away.

Pets can be taken along in your own vehicle free of charge. On the ship Ben-my-Chree, the facilities for pets on board can be used for a fee of 10 pounds.

There is no extra charge for luggage.
