Ferries to Ischia

Ischia is the largest island in the Bay of Naples and has two ferry ports: Ischia Porto in the main town and Casamicciola Terme on the north coast. The main port, Ischia Porto, links the island with 8 destinations: Naples in an hour, Procida in 30 minutes, plus Pozzuoli, Sorrento, Capri and, in season, Positano, Amalfi and Salerno. Together the services run up to 55 departures a day, and crossings take between 30 minutes and 3 hours. 7 operators call at the port, among them Alilauro, Caremar, Medmar and SNAV.

Ferry ports on Ischia

Ischia Porto

The main port sits in the Ischia Porto district and is reached via the island's road network, only a few hundred metres from the central bus station, from which services run to the other villages on the island. At the berth you will find a ticket office, a bar, a cash machine, a taxi rank, a covered waiting area and a kiosk.

Check-in is at the desk in the port, not online. In its conditions of carriage for the Bay of Naples, SNAV specifies 30 minutes before departure, and Alilauro likewise 30 minutes. Medmar, which runs the car ferries, requires at least 30 minutes for vehicles and 15 minutes for foot passengers.

Casamicciola Terme

The island's second ferry port lies on the north coast; the berth is called Marina di Casamicciola. From here you can reach eight destinations, among them Procida, Naples and Pozzuoli, plus Capri and, less often, Amalfi, Positano, Ponza and Ventotene. Together the connections add up to as many as 26 departures a day, with crossings of between 15 minutes and 2.5 hours. Five operators call here, among them Capitan Morgan, Caremar and Laser Capri Linee Blu. On site there are a ticket office, a bar, a cash machine, a taxi rank, a newspaper kiosk and a covered waiting area; Caremar's ticket office is staffed daily from 8:00 to 17:00.

Caremar does not issue its boarding card in purely digital form: you have to collect it at the ticket office of the departure port before the security check, or you will not get on board. Foot passengers can book online until 90 minutes before departure, and travellers with a car or motorbike until seven hours before. If you are taking a vehicle, you are far better off at the quay early than at the desk in the last quarter of an hour.
