Fanølinjen
Fanølinjen (formerly FanøFærgen) is the ferry connection between Fanø and the Danish mainland. Since 2018, the route has belonged to the shipping company Molslinjen, which folded it into its network after taking over Danske Færger.
The ferry sails between Esbjerg in Jutland and Nordby on the island of Fanø. With a crossing time of just 12 minutes, it is the only transport link between Fanø and the mainland. Because the crossing is so short, there are several departures an hour, on a 20-, 30- and 40-minute schedule between 04:50 and 00:15.
The fleet consists of the ferries MF Fenja, MF Menja and MF Sønderho, with capacities ranging from 163 to 395 passengers. In October 2021, the electric ferry M/F Grotte entered service to ease the growing queues of cars during the summer months. One of the three daily ferries is a foot-passenger-only vessel with no vehicle capacity.
Because the crossing is so short, tickets cannot be booked in advance - they are bought directly at the harbour on arrival. Fanølinjen is part of the extensive Molslinjen network, which connects regions across Denmark and the neighbouring countries of Sweden and Germany with 10 routes under various brands.
