The directory lists one ferry port for Shetland. Four connections run to other ports in the United Kingdom. The operator here is Northlink Ferries.
Lerwick ferry port
Lerwick is the main town of Shetland and the archipelago's only ferry port with services to the Scottish mainland. From here you can reach Aberdeen and Kirkwall on Orkney; together the routes add up to as many as 2 departures a day, and crossings take between 5.5 and 12 hours. The port is served by Northlink Ferries.
The terminal lies on Holmsgarth Road (ZE1 0PR), one mile from the centre, about 20 minutes on foot. A bus stops in front of the building, Lerwick bus station is less than a mile away, and taxis wait at the port. Lerwick Port Authority provides free short-stay and long-stay parking; there is no guarantee of a long-stay space, though, and overnight parking is not allowed in the short-stay car park.
NorthLink opens check-in two hours before departure and closes it 30 minutes before. With a vehicle you have to be checked in one hour before departure. Bookings and changes are best dealt with outside these times, because queues build up at the desk then.
