Depending on the operator and on the ports of departure and arrival, the crossing takes between 1.5h and 26h 45min. Several operators also run night crossings, which suit anyone who already has a long drive behind them in a motorhome, car or on a motorbike and wants to sleep on board. It is worth booking a cabin for the night. The modern car ferries carry motorhomes, vans and minibuses as well as cars, and you can travel with a motorbike too.
Tip: To get a low fare, book your ferry ticket to England as early as you can.
There are further ferry connections between the British Channel Islands and the English ferry ports. Routes are offered from the Isle of Wight, the Isle of Man, Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Scilly.
