Finnlines Plc is a Finnish shipping company founded in 1947, operating RoRo and passenger services in the Baltic Sea, the North Sea and the Celtic Sea. Since 2015, the company has been a wholly owned subsidiary of the Italian Grimaldi Group and part of one of the world's largest RoRo ferry businesses.
Its high-frequency RoPax lines connect Finland with Sweden, Finland with Germany, and Sweden with Germany. Three Star-class ships operate the Helsinki-Travemünde route with daily departures in both directions - the only direct sea link between Finland and mainland Europe for passengers. The Malmö-Travemünde route offers 24 weekly departures. The Naantali-Långnäs-Kapellskär route serves as an important maritime bridge between Finland and Sweden.
The new Superstar class comprises the Finnsirius (September 2023) and the Finncanopus (February 2024), modern cruise ferries with an enhanced level of service and significantly increased freight capacity. In April 2025, Finnlines ordered 3 more Superstar-class ships for delivery in 2028-2030 from China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Weihai), as part of a larger nine-ship order for the Grimaldi fleet.
All Star-class ferries have ice-strengthened hulls (class "1A Super"), allowing them to navigate icy waters without icebreaker assistance. The fleet carries both passengers and freight, connecting major trade routes in the Baltic.
