Grandi Navi Veloci

Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV) is an Italian shipping line based in Genoa, founded in 1992 by Aldo Grimaldi as a subsidiary of the Grimaldi Group. Since 2010 the company has been part of the MSC Group, connecting eight countries with 26 ships across 54 routes: Italy, Spain, France, Albania, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria and Malta.

GNV runs ferry services between mainland Italy and the islands of Sicily and Sardinia, as well as international routes to Spain, France, Albania, Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria. The Naples–Palermo route is the busiest, with more than 10 weekly departures, followed by Genoa–Palermo with more than 6. More than 18 sailings a week serve Palermo.

The first ship, the Majestic, entered service on the Genoa–Palermo route in 1993, followed in 1994 by the Splendid on the Genoa–Porto Torres route. These were the first cruise ferries operated by an Italian shipping line. The large cruise ferries La Superba and La Suprema joined the fleet in 2002 and 2003. In 2024, the GNV Polaris entered service as the first of four new-generation ships.

The GNV Virgo is expected in late 2025 — Italy's first LNG-powered ferry, cutting CO2 emissions by more than 50 percent. During the COVID-19 pandemic, GNV made the Splendid available as a hospital ship for a symbolic €1. On board there are cabins in various categories, restaurants and service areas. Vehicles can also be carried.
