Ferries to Sweden

There are many ways to reach Sweden.

Prices, departure times, tickets

The car ferries carry cars as well as bicycles, motorhomes, vans and, depending on the route, lorries. Travelling by motorbike is also possible.

Tip: Book your ferry to Sweden early and you will usually get the cheapest fares.

Direct connections from Germany to Sweden

The following direct services from Germany to the ferry ports in Sweden are currently on offer:

  • Sassnitz - Trelleborg with FRS Baltic
  • Kiel - Gothenburg with Stena Line
  • Rostock - Trelleborg with Stena Line
  • Rostock - Trelleborg with TT-Line
  • Travemünde - Malmö with Finnlines
  • Travemünde - Trelleborg with TT-Line

Depending on the route and the operator, a crossing takes between 2h 30min and 15h 30min. Depending on the departure time you will need to book a cabin for the night, or at least a berth. Overnight crossings make sense if you still have a long drive to the port in your motorhome or car, or a long onward journey in Sweden ahead of you.

NEW: The northern German operator FRS (FRS Baltic) has been running the route from Sassnitz to Trelleborg in just 2.5 hours since 2023. That is a real gain for anyone holidaying in southern Sweden or living in eastern Germany.

Alternatively: If you would rather travel to Sweden via Denmark, take the Scandlines ferries from Rostock to Gedser or the ferry from Puttgarden to Rödby.
