Alilauro Gruson S.p.A. was formed in the early 1990s from the partnership of Alilauro S.p.A. of Ischia and Gruson S.R.L., which had represented Sorrento's boatmen in the Gulf of Sorrento since the 1950s. The company's history goes back to 1944, when Agostino Lauro created the first connection between the islands in the Gulf of Naples and the mainland.

Alilauro Gruson runs fast ferry services to the Amalfi Coast, the Gulf of Naples and the islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida. Its hydrofoils depart from Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, Castellammare di Stabia, Cetara, Maiori, Minori, Salerno and Vietri sul Mare. Up to 41 departures a day and 236 crossings a week are offered across 24 routes.

The fleet consists of 11 fast, reliable hydrofoils. The crossing from Sorrento to Capri takes just 19 minutes, and to Positano 39 minutes. On the Sorrento-Capri route, Alilauro Gruson offers the most frequent service, with up to 14 crossings a day.

The hydrofoils carry passengers only; vehicles cannot be taken onboard. Food and drink, comfortable seating and Wi-Fi are available onboard. The ticket price includes one piece of luggage up to 50x30x15 cm and 10 kg. Accessible facilities ensure a comfortable crossing for all travellers.
