Atlanticoline was founded in 2005 by the government of the Azores in the mid-Atlantic and is the archipelago's only ferry company. It has built up a network of ferry connections between the main Azorean islands, offering safe, comfortable and fast crossings.

Atlanticoline runs 6 main ferry routes between the islands of the Central and Western Groups of the Azores. The 'Triangle' group of Faial, Pico and São Jorge is reachable by ferry year-round. The crossing from Horta to Madalena takes around 29 minutes, and from Madalena to Velas around 1 hour 19 minutes. The Rosa Line also connects the outlying islands of Flores and Corvo daily, even in winter.

The fleet comprises 5 conventional monohull ferries: Mestre Jaime Feijó, Ariel, Gilberto Mariano, Cruzeiro do Canal and Cruzeiro das Ilhas. Two of the larger ferries can also carry vehicles between the islands. The Eastern Group islands of São Miguel and Santa Maria have no ferry connection to each other or to any other island.

Services mainly run in summer and are significantly reduced in winter. The Violet Line only runs on Tuesdays and Saturdays, from June to September. Onboard, modern amenities and flexible luggage rules are available. Two pieces of luggage plus hand baggage, up to 60x50x25 cm, are free. Infants, children, people with disabilities and groups receive discounts.
