Balearia

Baleària is a Spanish shipping company headquartered in Dénia, founded on 20 June 1998 by 16 founding partners under the leadership of Adolfo Utor. The company connects destinations in five countries: Spain, Algeria, Morocco, the US and the Bahamas.

Baleària operates 35 ships on 83 routes across the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. The Balearic Islands are its core market, accounting for 50 per cent of passengers. From Dénia, Valencia and Barcelona, it serves Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera. Across the Strait of Gibraltar, the company connects Algeciras with Ceuta and Tangier. Following the acquisition of Naviera Armas Trasmediterránea in August 2025, key routes to the Canary Islands were added.

The fleet includes high-speed ferries such as Eleanor Roosevelt, Margarita Salas and Ramon Llull, as well as conventional ferries such as Abel Matutes and Hypatia de Alejandría. In 2023 Baleària put Spain's first fully electric ferry, the Cap de Barbaria, into service, running emissions-free between Ibiza and Formentera and carrying 85 vehicles and 400 passengers.

Onboard, restaurants, cafeterias and lounges are available. Cars, motorhomes and motorcycles can be carried. Baleària was a world pioneer in 2019 in operating natural gas-powered ferries and has invested more than €500 million in environmentally friendly propulsion technology. In the Caribbean, Baleària Caribbean runs connections from Fort Lauderdale to Grand Bahama and Bimini.
