The Catalina Flyer is a 600-passenger catamaran that has offered round-trip service to Catalina Island from Newport Beach since 1988. It is the largest passenger catamaran on the US West Coast, with elegantly appointed interiors, spacious sun decks and panoramic windows.
The Catalina Flyer departs daily from the Balboa Pavilion in Newport Beach (400 Main Street, Newport Beach, CA 92661) and reaches Avalon on Catalina Island in just 90 minutes. The high-speed catamaran, put into service in 1988, cost 3.5 million dollars and is 36 metres long, weighing 93 tonnes. It can accommodate 350 guests for events.
The Catalina Flyer has three decks. The first deck has a snack bar, the second an alcohol bar. The sun deck and large windows offer fantastic views of the coastline, with the chance to spot dolphins and whales. The ship is also available for private charter to Catalina or within Newport Beach Harbor.
Check-in should take place 1 hour before departure, with boarding beginning 30 minutes before. Parking is available at the Municipal Parking Lot next to the Balboa Pier. Partnership offers are available with most Catalina hotels, as well as special promotions such as holiday discounts, senior rates and group prices.
