Fred Olsen Express is an inter-island ferry service based in the Canary Islands, Spain. The company was founded in 1974 as Ferry Gomera, S.A. Its first crossing took place on 8 July 1974, from the Gomeran capital San Sebastián de La Gomera to Los Cristianos on Tenerife.
Fred Olsen Express operates a fleet of six modern high-speed ferries connecting Tenerife, Gran Canaria, La Gomera, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma and El Hierro. The fleet includes the Benchijigua Express, the world's first trimaran of its kind, which entered service in 2005. The HSC Bocayna Express has run the 15-minute crossing between Playa Blanca (Lanzarote) and Corralejo (Fuerteventura) since 2003. There are also routes between the Canary Islands and mainland Spain via the port of Cádiz in Andalusia.
The company is an established market leader, carrying more than 2.4 million passengers and 800,000 vehicles a year. Its ferries run around 64 times a day and up to 416 times a week across 24 ferry routes. The crossing between Gran Canaria and Tenerife takes about 2 hours, and between Gran Canaria and Lanzarote about 6 hours.
Passengers travelling with a vehicle can bring unlimited luggage; those without a vehicle can bring up to 20 kg free of charge. The ferries offer facilities for passengers with disabilities, including cabins and wheelchairs, as well as purpose-built infrastructure for pets. Passengers should be ready to board at least 20 minutes before departure, or 40 minutes if travelling with a vehicle.
