Ichnusa Lines was founded in 2021 by the Finsea Group and San Giorgio del Porto, and is based in Genoa. The company began operations on 4 July 2021, offering safe shipping services between Santa Teresa Gallura on Sardinia and Bonifacio on Corsica.
The ferry sails through the Strait of Bonifacio, connecting ports just 11 kilometres apart. The crossing takes about 50 minutes but can vary depending on weather conditions. The service is seasonal, running during the main tourist season with three daily departures on both routes. For 2026, the route is scheduled to run from January to October, more than nine months of operation.
The ship "Ichnusa" (the ancient Greek name for Sardinia) is 64 metres long, 13 metres wide and has capacity for up to 325 passengers. It was built by Fincantieri in 1985, initially operated by Tirrenia and later sold to Blunavy. The ship was refurbished inside and out in 2019 and is now owned by GTM (Genova Trasporti Marittimi).
The ferry is fitted with two stabiliser fins, allowing for a safe crossing of the strait, where storm surges and strong currents are common. The name "Ichnusa" honours Sardinia's historical name and underlines the company's connection to the region.
