Kapetan Luka was founded in 1889, initially as a small cargo shipping operator, later becoming a cruise and excursion company in the 1970s. In the early 2000s, the company developed its fast catamaran ferry service. Head office is in Krilo Jesenice near Split.

The fleet comprises 6 catamarans with seating capacity from 180 to 396 passengers: Krilo Lux, Krilo Eclipse, Krilo Carbo, Krilo Nomadic, Krilo and Krilo Star. All the high-speed catamarans have modern facilities but no vehicle decks, carrying passengers only. Cargo services ended in 1981, after which the company focused on passenger transport.

The main routes connect Split with Bol (Brač), Makarska, Korčula, Pomena and Sobra (Mljet), and Dubrovnik. Another route runs via Milna (Brač) and Hvar to Korčula and Dubrovnik. The catamaran reaches Hvar Town in one hour, Korčula Town a further hour and 15 minutes later. Departures from Split are in the morning.

Apart from the Split-Hvar-Korčula line, all routes run only in the summer season, typically from early April to late October. In 2001 the company took delivery of its first catamaran, and since 2003 it has run two business lines: catamaran services and cruise operations.
