MOL Ferry, operated by MOL Sunflower Ltd. (Mitsui O.S.K. Lines), is Japan's largest domestic ferry operator, with the country's biggest fleet and most extensive route network. The company runs 10 ferries and 4 RORO ships throughout Japan, from Hokkaido to Kyushu.

The main "Hokkaido Route" connects the main island of Honshu with the northern island of Hokkaido, between the ports of Oarai and Tomakomai. The crossing takes about 18 hours and runs up to twelve times a week. There are two daily departures: an evening ferry (departing in the evening, arriving early afternoon the next day) and a night ferry (departing at midnight, arriving the same evening).

The fleet has recently been expanded with modern LNG-powered ferries: in January 2025, the Sunflower Kamuy entered service on the Oarai-Tomakomai route. Together with sister ferry Sunflower Pirka and the Sunflower Kurenai and Sunflower Murasaki already operating on the Osaka-Beppu route, MOL Sunflower now runs four LNG ferries with around 35% lower CO2 emissions.

The ships offer a range of cabins, including dog-friendly rooms. Onboard facilities include an upscale restaurant, a hot bath with spectacular views, and generous communal areas. Motorcyclists can book special comfort cabins.
