Perhentian Boat Services

Perhentian Boat Services is a Malaysian boat operator running regular transfers from Kuala Besut Jetty in Terengganu to the Perhentian Islands. The islands lie around 21 km from Kuala Besut and can only be reached by speedboat - there is no regular ferry service.

The boats take passengers directly to their destination on one of the two main islands: Pulau Perhentian Besar ("Big Perhentian Island") or Pulau Perhentian Kecil ("Small Perhentian Island"). The crossing takes around 30-45 minutes depending on weather conditions. The route can be booked 7 days a week from March to October, with departures from Kuala Besut mostly between 08:00 and 16:00.

The speedboats are smaller boats with basic fittings, offering both seated and open-deck options. There are no cabins, lounge areas or numbered seats. Passengers can usually bring up to 2 pieces of luggage with a combined weight of up to 15 kg. Pets are generally not allowed.

From February 2026, a return ticket costs 80 MYR for adults and 50 MYR for children. Private boats during the day cost 400 MYR one way. Anyone who misses the last speedboat at 16:40 must stay overnight in Kuala Besut. During peak season (June-August), booking 1-2 months in advance is recommended.
