The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is the world's oldest continuously operating shipping company. On 30 June 1830, the brand-new ship Mona's Isle made its very first voyage from Douglas to Liverpool. Today the company runs ferry services to the Isle of Man from Heysham, Liverpool, Dublin and Belfast.
The ferry services are operated with two ships: the Manxman and the Manannan. The Heysham-Douglas route runs up to 12 times a week with daily sailings, and the crossing takes about 4 hours. The Liverpool-Douglas service takes around 3 hours 30 minutes, with about 4 sailings a week. Seasonal services from Dublin and Larne run from March to October.
The Manxman, the company's flagship, was built in 2023 and offers stylish, comfortable travel of the highest quality. The ship has a passenger capacity of 948, more than 300 above its predecessor, the Ben-my-Chree. The Manannan is a 96-metre wave-piercing catamaran built for fast, comfortable crossings.
In the 1980s the main port switched from Liverpool to Heysham, temporarily ending a connection dating back to the company's origins. In 2025, 80% of sailings ran on time (departing within 15 minutes of the scheduled time).
