Stewart Island Experience is the sole ferry operator running the 39-kilometre crossing of the Foveaux Strait between Bluff on mainland New Zealand and Oban on Stewart Island (Rakiura). The year-round service connects New Zealand's third-largest island with the mainland every day.

The ferry crossing takes about an hour, reaching speeds of up to 20 knots. During the crossing, passengers can look out for wildlife, particularly seabirds such as mollymawks (albatrosses) gliding behind the ferry. Check-in is required 30 minutes before departure, and bookings are essential.

The modern express catamaran offers comfortable seating, free tea and coffee, and large windows for the view. Each passenger may bring two pieces of luggage plus one small handbag. The ferry carries only passengers and light freight, no vehicles. Rental cars, minibuses and e-bikes can be hired at the Oban Visitor Centre.

Fares are NZD 125 for adults and NZD 64 for children (including a NZD 2.50 government levy). Bus transfers between Invercargill and Bluff are available seasonally for an extra charge, with pickups from accommodation in Invercargill, the airport and the town centre. Parking is available at the Bluff Visitor Terminal.
