Tokyo Kyushu Ferry began operating between Yokosuka and Kitakyushu in July 2021. With two newly built ferries, the company offers a comfortable alternative to rail or air travel between the Tokyo region and the island of Kyushu.

The ferry crossing takes about 21 hours. Departures in both directions are just before midnight, arriving the following day at around 9pm. The service runs six times a week (except Sundays). One-way fares range from 20,000 yen (around USD 124) to 77,600 yen (around USD 482), depending on cabin choice and season.

The two newly built ferries are named "Hamayu" (Yokosuka) and "Soreiyu" (Kitakyushu), named after flowers from the two cities. Each ferry has private cabins where pets are allowed, luxurious saunas and an outdoor bath with a refreshing sea breeze, a gym, a barbecue area and a home cinema room.

Shin-Moji port in Kitakyushu is located outside the city centre and is reached by shuttle bus from Kokura Station (about 40 minutes) or Moji Station (about 20 minutes). Reservations can be made by phone or online (Japanese) from one month before the travel date.
