Trans Asia Shipping Lines was founded on 25 March 1974 under the name Solar Shipping Lines. It is headquartered at the corner of MJ Cuenco Avenue and Osmeña Boulevard in Cebu City. Since December 2016, the company has been part of Chelsea Logistics Holdings Corporation.
Its service area covers the central Philippines and northern Mindanao. From Cebu, the ships call at ports across the Visayas and along Mindanao's north coast, alongside connections to Manila, Davao, General Santos and Zamboanga.
According to the company, the fleet consists of five RoPax vessels, which carry passengers and rolling cargo together, plus six dedicated cargo ships. Besides passenger services, Trans Asia operates container and general cargo transport, a parcel service and pet transport. The company says it employs more than 360 staff.
