Tsugarukaikyo Ferry began operations on 23 February 1972 as Donan Jidosha Ferry. It has carried its current name since 2009, following a merger, and remains privately held.
Its service area is the Tsugaru Strait, the strait between the Japanese main island of Honshu and Hokkaido to the north. Ports served include Hakodate on Hokkaido, plus Aomori, Oma and Muroran. Between Hakodate and Aomori, six round trips run daily, with the crossing taking around three hours and 40 minutes.
The fleet comprises five ships: Blue Dolphin, Blue Happiness, Blue Luminous, Daikan Maru and Blue Mermaid. The Blue Grace joined in 2025. Since the extension of the Hokkaido Shinkansen, more travellers have again been using the ferry between Hakodate and Aomori.
