Virtu Ferries was founded in 1988 and is headquartered in Marsa, Malta. The company belongs to Virtu Holdings and previously operated under the names Virtu Car Ferries, Virtu Ferries Gozo and Gozo Highspeed.
Its service area lies in the Malta Channel between the Maltese archipelago and Sicily; the Valletta-Pozzallo connection runs year-round, almost daily. Through its subsidiary Venezia Lines, seasonal Adriatic connections are added from April to October, running from Venice to Istria and Slovenia.
The fleet consists entirely of catamarans. The largest ship is the Saint John Paul II, 110 metres long and licensed for 900 passengers, alongside the Jean de La Valette and smaller vessels for the Gozo route. Virtu Ferries says it carries more than 250,000 passengers and 25,000 vehicles a year.
