The ferry port of Aberdeen lies on the Scottish North Sea coast and is the mainland gateway to the northern island groups. From here you can reach Kirkwall on Orkney and Lerwick in Shetland. Together the routes add up to as many as 4 departures a day. Crossings take between 6 and 12 hours. The port is served by Northlink Ferries.

Getting there and the terminal

Aberdeen Ferry Terminal lies at Jamieson's Quay (AB11 5NP) in the middle of the city. From Aberdeen station, where trains from Inverness, Edinburgh and Glasgow call, it is less than a mile. The terminal has no car park of its own. NorthLink points to the port operator's car park at Commercial Quay, which may be used for up to 72 hours, to Union Square three minutes' walk away and, for longer stays, to the areas at Beach Boulevard and Esplanade. There are charging points for electric cars, bikes and scooters at the terminal, and a drop-off bay in front of the main entrance.

Check-in

Check-in opens two hours before departure and closes 30 minutes before departure. If you are taking a vehicle, you have to be checked in one hour before departure.
