Aegiali is, after Katapola, the second ferry port on Amorgos, the easternmost island of the Cyclades, and it lies on the north coast below the mountain villages of the island's north. From here you can reach nine destinations: Katapola in 45 minutes, plus Donoussa, Koufonissi, Schinoussa, Iraklia, Astypalea, Naxos and Paros, and Piraeus in up to 7.75 hours. Together the services add up to as many as 18 departures a day, and journey times run from 45 minutes to 7.75 hours. The port is served by Blue Star Ferries, which runs the long line to the mainland, and by Small Cyclades Lines, which calls at the small neighbouring islands.
Getting there and the terminal
The port sits on the bay of the same name, around 15 kilometres from the Chora and a good 20 kilometres from Katapola, the island's second port. It is small, but everything you need is on the quay: the village with its tavernas, shops and accommodation runs right down to the mole. From there you travel on by KTEL bus, by taxi or in a hired car or scooter, and many places to stay collect their guests from the boat. Check which of the two ports is on your ticket before you book: Aegiali and Katapola are a good half hour apart across the island.
Check-in
Blue Star Ferries offers web check-in from 48 hours until 2 hours before departure. If you need a paper ticket, collect it at the port agent's office no later than two hours before departure; on the Greek domestic lines that is the only place where the operator issues tickets.
