Agathonisi ferry port lies on the island of the same name, the northernmost in the Dodecanese, only a few miles south of Samos. From here you can reach 11 destinations, among them Kalymnos, Lipsi and Agia Marina Leros. Together the connections add up to as many as 24 departures a day. Crossings take between 30 minutes and 5.25 hours. The port is served by Dodekanisos Seaways and SAOS Ferries.
Getting there and the terminal
The berth does not carry the island's name: the ships tie up at Agios Georgios, the bay on the south coast. The municipality describes the mole as broad and long and facing south, so that boats large and small lie sheltered from the north winds. The main village, Megalo Chorio, sits above it. It was deliberately laid out so that it could not be seen from the sea, in order to protect the inhabitants from pirates, and has only recently grown down as far as the harbour. The second village, Mikro Chorio, lies opposite Megalo Chorio. For scale: the island measures 14.4 square kilometres, has around 20 kilometres of road and 203 permanent residents. There are regular sailings to Rhodes, Kos, Kalymnos, Leros, Lipsi, Patmos and Samos, and there is a helipad as well.
