Ferries to Ajaccio

The ferry port of Ajaccio lies on the west coast of Corsica, with the berth in the Les Cannes district on the edge of the town centre. From here you can reach 5 destinations, among them Toulon, Marseille and Nice, plus Sète and Porto Torres on Sardinia. Together the services add up to as many as 12 departures a day, and crossings take between 4.25 and 14.5 hours. The port is served by Corsica Ferries, Corsica Linea and La Meridionale.

Getting there and the terminal

Ajaccio handles departures at two separate places, and which one applies to you depends on the operator. Corsica Ferries foot passengers check in at the Gare Maritime on Quai l'Herminier, while foot passengers with Corsica Linea and La Meridionale check in at the Gare Cargo on Boulevard Sampiero. Both are in the middle of town, a few steps from the bus station and from the station of the Corsican railway. By car you follow the signs in the centre for the Gare Maritime as far as the port entrance at the roundabout by the railway station. Cars dropping people off are not allowed onto the port site: if you are bringing someone, set them down at the terminal.

Check-in

With a vehicle you report for the pre-check at the roundabout by the railway station two hours before departure. There is no point in coming earlier, as the port authority will not let vehicles onto the site before then. After that come the operator's ticket and ID checks and lining up in the marshalling area. On foot, La Meridionale asks for one hour before departure, and an hour and a half with a vehicle. You also need your ticket and ID at the entrance for the security staff, and you have to keep them with you inside the port area.
