The ferry port of Algiers is Algeria's most important passenger port and the capital's link to Europe. From here you can reach four destinations, all on the northern side of the western Mediterranean: Alicante in 13 hours, Barcelona in 16 hours, Marseille in 21 hours and Sète in 24 hours. Together the routes run up to 8 departures a day. The port is served by Balearia, Corsica Linea, Grandi Navi Veloci and Nouris El Bahr Ferries.
Getting there and the terminal
The Gare Maritime is on the Môle El-Djazair, not far from the railway station of Algiers. On foot you come along Boulevard Zirout Youssef and over the footbridge across the railway tracks to Rue d'Angkor; the passenger entrance is behind the car park, just before the terminal building and opposite quay 11. By car the approach runs along quay 8 to the terminal entrance. Vessels lie at quay 9 or quay 11. Passengers and vehicles face police and customs checks, and that takes time.
Check-in
In Algiers, Grandi Navi Veloci opens check-in ten hours before departure and closes it five hours before departure. So allow half a day's lead time and check your own operator's deadline before you plan the journey there.
