Anafi's ferry port is called Agios Nikolaos and is the berth of this remote Cycladic island in the Aegean. From here you can reach 11 destinations, among them Chalki, Diafani and Heraklion. Together the connections add up to as many as 22 departures a day. Crossings take between 1.25 and 11.5 hours. The port is served by Blue Star Ferries. Thira is 75 minutes away, Piraeus eight hours, and if you stay on board all the way to Rhodes you are travelling for eleven and a half hours. The frequency is thin: most destinations are served once or twice a week, so a trip to Anafi has to be planned around the timetable rather than the other way round.
Getting there and the terminal
From the berth the island's surfaced main road leads up to the Chora, the main village. The same road serves the beaches in the south-east. The island bus runs along it, connecting harbour, Chora and beaches. Check the timetable again shortly before you travel: in strong winds, departures in this corner of the Aegean are cancelled.
