The ferry port of Andros is at Gavrio on the north-west coast of the island, around 12 kilometres from the main town of the same name. If you are heading for Chora, you still have a drive ahead of you once the ship has docked. Plan for it before you book your crossing.
From here you can reach 12 destinations, with up to 74 departures a day in total. The most important line runs to Rafina on the mainland, the ferry port north-east of Athens (2 hours, up to 17 departures a day). Tinos (1.5 hours) and Mykonos (2.25 hours) are served just as often. Then come Naxos (3 hours), Paros (2.25 hours), Syros and Thira (5.5 hours); Heraklion on Crete takes 7.5 hours and Piraeus 6.5. Kea, Kythnos and Lavrio appear far less often in the timetable, usually only on single days of the week. Crossings take between 1.5 and 9.25 hours.
The port is served by Cyclades Fast Ferries, Golden Star Ferries, Hellenic Seaways and SeaJets. The port authority is based in Gavrio.
Getting there and the terminal
Gavrio is the island's central port, and it is from here that KTEL Andros moves arriving passengers on: in quick succession to Chora, to Batsi and to Korthi, as well as to many villages and the larger beaches. If you arrive without a car you can still get everywhere, but you should factor the drive across the island into your arrival time.
