Location
Angra do Heroísmo

The ferry port of Angra do Heroísmo lies on Terceira in the centre of the Azores, less than a kilometre from the centre of the World Heritage town. From here you can reach Calheta on São Jorge, Madalena on Pico and Horta on Faial. Together the routes add up to as many as 6 departures a day. Crossings take between 3 and 5.75 hours. The port is served by Atlanticoline.

Getting there and the terminal

The ships tie up in the historic Porto das Pipas, the harbour of Angra do Heroísmo. The regional port company Portos dos Açores lists it as a facility geared entirely towards maritime tourism in its various forms, handling passenger traffic within the central group of the archipelago on seasonal services. That is exactly what the timetable shows: São Jorge, Pico and Faial all belong to the central group, and outside the season the offer thins out.

There is no passenger terminal of its own in Angra as there is in Ponta Delgada or Horta; passengers are processed in the harbour itself. In return, the old town lies immediately behind the harbour basin, so you are in the centre within a few minutes on foot.
