The ferry port of Arbatax is on the east coast of Sardinia and belongs to the municipality of Tortolì in the Ogliastra. It is the only larger ferry berth on this stretch of coast between Olbia and Cagliari. Grimaldi Lines connects it with Civitavecchia near Rome, with up to 2 departures a day on about two days of the week. The crossing takes around 9 hours and mostly runs overnight.
Getting there and the terminal
The port has two moles with a clear division of labour: the Molo di Ponente serves the industrial estate, while the Molo di Levante lies closer to the village and is the ferry berth. The port authority describes Arbatax expressly as a berth laid out mainly for passenger traffic, with ticket desks, catering and connections to local and regional public transport. The port adjoins the village directly. By car you reach it on the SS 125 trunk road, which runs along the east coast. Without a car you arrive on the regional ARST buses; Arbatax station is the terminus of the narrow-gauge line to Mandas, which runs as a tourist railway. The nearest airport is Cagliari, from where there are bus and shuttle connections.
