Arkoi ferry port lies on the island of the same name in the northern Dodecanese. From here you can reach 10 destinations, among them Patmos in a quarter of an hour, plus Lipsi, Leros and Kos. Together the connections add up to as many as 20 departures a day, and crossings take between 15 minutes and seven hours to Rhodes. Nine of the ten connections run in season only. The port is served by Dodekanisos Seaways and SAOS Ferries.
Getting there and the terminal
Getting there is a big word here: Arkoi has exactly one settlement, and it lies at the harbour. The main village is grouped around the bay where the ships tie up, and the remaining houses are scattered higher up the slope. The island belongs to the municipality of Patmos in the regional unit of Kalymnos and had 44 inhabitants at the 2011 census; people live from fishing, seafaring, goat-keeping and four tavernas. You will not need a terminal building, and rooms and tavernas are within walking distance of the quay.
Check-in
What counts is the operator's deadline, and for a berth of this size it is remarkably strict: under its conditions of carriage, Dodekanisos Seaways requires you to be at the ship 60 minutes before the scheduled departure. If you turn up after the departure time, you have no claim to a refund.
