The Bejaia ferry port is in Algeria, on the coast of Kabylia. From here you can reach two destinations in France: Sète and Marseille. Together the connections add up to as many as 3 departures a day. Crossings take between 21 and 26 hours, so these are the classic overnight sailings. The port is served by Corsica Linea and Grandi Navi Veloci.
Getting there and the terminal
The port is right in the city, on Boulevard Frères Amrani. The ferry terminal stands at the port entrance, directly opposite the railway station; both shipping companies describe the location the same way. By car you come via the N24 national road, and guarded parking is available at the port. Taxis wait round the clock near the terminal, and city buses connect the port with the neighbourhoods and the railway station. The check-in area has waiting areas, food outlets and a left-luggage service.
Check-in
Allow for the long lead times typical of crossings to North Africa. Grandi Navi Veloci opens check-in ten hours before departure and closes it five hours before departure — the stricter of the two companies' figures. Corsica Linea gives no fixed deadline; instead it prints the check-in time on the travel document and confirms it by SMS on the day of travel. Have your passport ready, and vehicle registration papers if you're bringing a car; police and customs checks follow on arrival.
