The ferry port of Belize City lies in Belize, in the centre of the country's largest city. From here you can reach Caye Caulker and San Pedro on Ambergris Caye. Together the routes add up to as many as 56 departures a day. Crossings take between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours. The port is served by Belize Express Water Taxi and Caribbean Sprinter.

Getting there and the terminal

The two operators do not leave from the same jetty. Belize Express Water Taxi, known locally as San Pedro Belize Express, uses the Belize Marine Terminal at 111 North Front Street. Caribbean Sprinter runs its own terminal on the same street and collects air passengers from the international airport by shuttle. If you arrive by air, check beforehand which of the two terminals is on your ticket; the names are similar, the berths are not the same.

Check-in

Neither operator sets a fixed deadline. In practice you should be at the terminal around 30 minutes before departure to collect your ticket and hand over large bags: they are labelled, stowed in the hold and returned to you on arrival. Boarding starts 15 to 20 minutes before departure, with staff calling the destinations one by one. Seats are not allocated. Keep small bags with you, because the boats are fast and open at the sides.
