Caen ferry port is not in Caen but in Ouistreham on the Normandy coast, around 15 kilometres north of the city. From here you can reach Portsmouth. A ferry leaves up to 6 times a day and the crossing takes around 6 hours. The port is served by Brittany Ferries.
Getting there and the terminal
From the port the N175 heads towards Mont-Saint-Michel and Brittany, the N13 to Bayeux and Cherbourg and the N158 towards Le Mans and the Loire; the motorway runs close to the terminal. Twisto buses connect Ouistreham with the centre of Caen, and their stop is a good 400 metres from the terminal. They do not, however, serve the evening departures and arrivals. You can park in the port car park; if you are taking the first sailing of the morning, you may also leave your vehicle in the check-in lanes after the last departure of the day.
Check-in
Brittany Ferries requires you to have checked in at least 45 minutes before departure. If an animal is travelling with you, it is at least 90 minutes. Foot passengers are taken from the terminal to the ship by shuttle bus.
