Capraia ferry port is the only berth on the island of Capraia in the Tuscan Archipelago. The island belongs to the province of Livorno and lies between Elba and Corsica, closer to the Corsican coast than to the Italian mainland. Port and village are one and the same: the settlement of Capraia Isola runs right along the harbour basin. Toremar links the island with Livorno all year round, daily and with up to 2 departures a day; the crossing takes around 2.75 hours. There is no other ferry connection, not even to Corsica, and the island has no airport either. The timetable is therefore the only thing that sets the rhythm of arrival and departure, and in winter a sailing is occasionally cancelled in heavy seas. If you want to bring a vehicle, book early; on the island itself you can get by largely without a car. Most of Capraia belongs to the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, and large parts of the island can only be reached on foot or by boat. If you are coming just to walk, a rucksack and the timetable will serve you better than your own car.
