Carteret belongs to the commune of Barneville-Carteret on the west coast of the Cotentin, Manche department, Normandy. From here Manche Iles Express crosses to Jersey: up to 2 departures a day, with a journey time of around 1.25 hours.
Getting there and the terminal
Departures are from the gare maritime on Quai Valmy in 50270 Barneville-Carteret, right at the harbour entrance. If you come by car, leave it there: for Carteret as for the operator's two other French ports, Granville and Diélette, Manche Iles Express states that you can park free of charge immediately in front of the gare maritime. From the same three ports the operator serves Guernsey, Alderney and Sark as well as Jersey, so Carteret works as a starting point for a tour of several Channel Islands.
Check-in
Manche Iles Express requires you to check in at least 90 minutes before departure. Anyone arriving later than 40 minutes before departure is no longer allowed on board. Both figures come from the operator itself and are not a recommendation but the point at which check-in closes. Expect a ticket check and baggage drop-off in between, and aim for the earlier of the two marks.
