The ferry port of Chania is on the north coast of Crete and is one of three Cretan ports served by Blue Star Ferries, alongside Heraklion and Sitia. It takes its name from the town, but the berth itself is not by the old town: it lies east of it in the suburb of Souda. Set your navigation for the centre of Chania and you will end up at the wrong end. From here you can reach Piraeus, the main port of Athens. There are up to 2 departures a day to choose from, and the crossing takes around 9.25 hours. The port is served by Blue Star Ferries.

Getting there and the terminal

Chania's municipal bus company runs between the berth and the town. Its line 13 officially carries the name "Port of Souda - Naval Hospital of Crete" and serves Chania itself along the way. For foot passengers it is the simplest link from ship to town, with no hire car and no taxi. The routing through Souda was changed recently. So check the operator's current timetable before you travel rather than relying on older information or a map app. Which berth in the port of Souda applies to your departure is printed on your ticket.
