Terminals
Terminal Puerto Colonia, Avenida Roosevelt Ecke Rivera; Colonia Express am Muelle de Ultramar

Colonia del Sacramento ferry port lies on the Río de la Plata in Uruguay, opposite the Argentine capital. From here you can reach Buenos Aires: a ferry leaves up to 16 times a day and the crossing takes around 1.25 hours. The port is served by Buquebus and Colonia Express.

Getting there and the terminal

The Terminal Puerto Colonia stands on the corner of Avenida Roosevelt and Rivera. It is Uruguay's busiest port for passengers and vehicles, and the building is correspondingly spacious, with a modern waiting area and boarding facilities of its own. Montevideo is 177 kilometres from here.

Colonia Express handles departures at the Muelle de Ultramar, daily from 6.30am to 9.30pm; Buquebus uses the same harbour facility. Because the crossing goes over a national border, exit and entry checks are part of the process. Allow enough time for that: queues build up at weekends and in the holidays. If you are taking your vehicle, add a further buffer.

On the Argentine side the Colonia Express vessels berth at Avenida Elvira Rawson de Dellepiane 155 in Puerto Madero Sur, in the middle of Buenos Aires; the desk is staffed daily from 6am to 10pm. If you are coming from inland Uruguay, the operator's other sales points are at the Tres Cruces bus station in Montevideo and in Punta del Este.
