Steg in Coral Bay (Teluk Aur), Westkueste Pulau Perhentian Kecil

The Coral Bay jetty lies on the west coast of Pulau Perhentian Kecil, the smaller of the two Perhentian Islands in Malaysia. From here you can reach Kuala Besut Jetty on the mainland, with a boat leaving up to 30 times a day. The crossing takes around 45 minutes. The jetty is served by Perhentian Boat Services and Perhentian Sunny Travel.

Getting there and the terminal

Coral Bay, Teluk Aur in Malay, has a jetty where the boats tie up, so you step ashore with dry feet, which is not a given on the Perhentians. The bay is the quieter of the two main beach bays on Kecil. A jungle path leads across the narrow island to the livelier Long Beach on the east coast, about a quarter of an hour on foot. There are no roads and no cars; if you want to go further, take one of the water taxis that shuttle between the bays and to the neighbouring island of Perhentian Besar all day and into the late evening. You pay the marine park conservation fee before the crossing at the jetty in Kuala Besut. From November to February operations largely stop because of the northeast monsoon.
