Dana Point in southern Orange County is one of the Californian departure ports for Catalina Island. From here you can reach Avalon. The timetable lists up to 4 departures a day and the crossing takes around 1.5 hours. The route is operated by Catalina Express.

Getting there and the terminal

Catalina Express sails from Dana Point Harbor, address 34675 Golden Lantern St. The operator describes the location as right beside Interstate 5 and therefore easy to reach from San Diego and the rest of Orange County. Passengers are handled from the offices of Dana Wharf Sportfishing inside the harbour. Parking is only allowed in the Dana Point Harbor car park, and there on the third level; the open surface spaces are not intended for ferry passengers. You can reserve a space when you buy your ticket, otherwise you sort it out on the spot on the day of travel.

Check-in

Catalina Express asks you to be there 60 minutes before departure. Your first stop is the car park: you check in there and scan your parking code, then carry on to the berth. The ticket desk opens one hour before the first departure of the day.
