Dunkirk's ferry port is not in the town itself: the berth lies a good 13 kilometres to the west in the municipality of Loon-Plage, out in the port area on the North Sea coast. If you head for the town centre, you are in the wrong place. From here you can reach Dover and Rosslare. Together the services run up to 22 departures a day, and crossings take between 2 and 23 hours. The port is served by DFDS.
Getting there and the terminal
Ferries to Dover leave from the Terminal Car Ferry, Route de la Maison Blanche in 59279 Loon-Plage. The service to Rosslare uses its own berth, also in Loon-Plage. Short-stay parking is available in front of the main building.
Check-in
DFDS normally closes check-in for Dover 60 minutes before the scheduled departure. At peak times the operator expects 120 minutes up to the check-in deadline, because border and security checks are added on top. DFDS does not carry foot passengers on the Dover route for operational reasons, so you need a vehicle here.
