Flåm ferry port lies at the inner end of the Aurlandsfjord, a side arm of the Sognefjord, in the municipality of Aurland in Norway. From here you can reach 10 destinations, among them Balestrand, Bergen and Lavik. Together the services run up to 19 departures a day. Crossings take between 15 minutes and 5.25 hours. The port is served by Norled.
Getting there and the terminal
Flåm has fewer than 300 inhabitants and is still easy to reach. The E16 European route between Oslo and Bergen runs through the village, and the Flåm Railway climbs 20 kilometres from here up to Myrdal, where it meets the Bergen line. Arrive by train and you step out close to the water. The quay is built for crowds: Flåm can handle up to three cruise ships in a day, and the village counts almost 450,000 visitors a year.
Norled's express boats and fjord cruises leave from the quay in Flåm. The long run through the Sognefjord to Bergen operates daily from 1 April to 31 October and leaves Flåm in the afternoon, calling at Aurland, Leikanger, Vik and Balestrand among others. Norled does not give a fixed check-in deadline in minutes; the operator simply asks you to be at the quay in good time before departure.
