The ferry port of Folegandros is at Karavostasis; the main town of the Cycladic island, which has the same name as the island, is a good three kilometres away. For an island of this size the berth is remarkably well connected: 19 destinations are in the timetable, with up to 41 departures a day in total.
There are up to four departures a day to Piraeus, and the crossing takes four and a half hours. Ios is reached in 30 minutes, Milos in an hour, Kimolos in a little over one, Sifnos in two. If you want to go further into the Cyclades, there are services to Naxos (3.25 hours), Mykonos (4 hours) and Paros (4.5 hours), plus Katapola on Amorgos and Koufonissi. Crete is served directly: Heraklion in 4.5 hours, Rethymnon in 6.5. The shortest crossing takes 30 minutes, the longest 13.75 hours.
The port is served by Cyclades Fast Ferries, Hellenic Seaways and SeaJets. As everywhere in the Cyclades, the timetable changes with the season and wind can cancel departures. So check your connection again shortly before you travel.
Getting there and the terminal
Karavostasis is a hamlet on the water, not a harbour district. According to the municipality, the central bus stop of the island is right on the quay, and services are timed to the ships whatever hour they arrive. The main road from the port climbs to the Chora and on to Ano Meria, while a second runs along the coast to the settlement of Livadi and the beaches in the south. At the berth itself you will find tavernas, a minimarket, a bakery and a cash machine, and Chochlidia beach is next door.
