The ferry port of Fort de France lies in the capital of Martinique, on the Baie de Fort-de-France. From here you can reach Castries, Pointe a Pitre and Roseau. Together the routes add up to as many as 6 departures a day. Crossings take between 1.5 and 5 hours. The port is served by L’Express Des Iles.
Getting there and the terminal
The island ferries use the Terminal Inter-Îles of Fort-de-France, which lies separately from the Tourelles cruise terminal. So pay attention to the name if you are being driven to the port. According to the operator, one city transport line serves both the Terminal Inter-Îles and the airport; a transfer between port and airport can also be booked as a private car service. Hire cars are available right at the arrival port in Fort-de-France, from the budget class up to the premium category. The operator does advise booking in advance, though: on Martinique you make little progress without a car.
Check-in
Check-in opens two hours before the scheduled departure and closes a full 15 minutes before it. Anyone arriving after that is no longer let on board, as the operator states expressly in its conditions of carriage. For the crossing, citizens of the European Union need a valid identity card, everyone else a passport and, depending on nationality, a visa. Travel documents must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry.
