- Port of General Santos / Makar Wharf (Makar Port), Sarangani-Bucht
General Santos City ferry port lies in the south of Mindanao in the Philippines. From here you can reach 4 destinations, among them Davao City, Manila and Cebu City. Together the services run up to 6 departures a day. Crossings take between 9 and 47.5 hours. The port is served by 2GO Travel.
Getting there and the terminal
The port carries two names, and you will come across both locally: officially the Port of General Santos, in everyday use Makar Port or Makar Wharf. It lies on the shore of Sarangani Bay outside the city centre and is run by South Cotabato Integrated Port Services. For travellers it is the berth for inter-island and roro traffic; passengers are handled here as well as vehicles. The port has parking areas, catering, a cash machine and a bureau de change. 2GO Travel resumed passenger services in 2024, initially to Davao City, Iloilo City and Manila, with Cebu City added later.
Check-in
2GO Travel requires you to check in at the desk at least four hours before departure. The boarding gates close an hour before departure. You have to have your printed ticket and an official photo ID ready, such as a passport or driving licence: without these papers the operator may refuse you boarding. On the services from General Santos the buffer is particularly worthwhile, because the shortest crossing already takes nine hours and the ships sail on only a few days of the week.
