Georges Island ferry port lies on one of the Boston Harbor Islands in the United States. From here you can reach Boston. A ferry leaves up to 7 times a day. The crossing takes around 45 minutes. The port is served by Boston Harbor City Cruises.

Getting there and the terminal

Georges Island can only be reached by boat. The ferries start at Long Wharf North, 66 Long Wharf in Boston, right next to Christopher Columbus Park. On the underground you take the Blue Line to Aquarium, the Orange Line to State or Haymarket, and the Green Line to Haymarket.

The island itself covers a good 20 hectares and lies around eleven kilometres off the city. It is dominated by Fort Warren, a 19th-century fortress that stayed in service until 1947. The berth and walkways are step-free, though the transitions can be steep at low tide. On the island there is a visitor centre, toilets, drinking water and made-up paths; swimming is not allowed.

Check-in

Be at Long Wharf North at least 20 minutes before departure. Allow at least four hours for the trip, crossing and time on the island taken together. The service is cancelled in bad weather, so it is worth checking the timetable on the day.
