The ferry port of the island of Giglio is at the village of Giglio Porto, which belongs to the province of Grosseto in Tuscany. From the mainland the link comes across from Porto Santo Stefano: up to 8 departures a day, a crossing of around an hour, operated by Toremar. On the island itself the buses of Autolinee Toscane run.
Getting there and the terminal
Your journey is decided on the mainland, because that is where you board. Vessels leave from the ferry terminal at Porto Santo Stefano. Several car parks surround the terminal: the nearest are 300 to 400 metres away and therefore within walking distance, while further out there are fenced sites guarded around the clock that run a free shuttle to the port. Some of them have pitches for motorhomes and car-and-trailer combinations.
If you want to bring your car, sort it out beforehand: there is a restriction on landing vehicles on Giglio and Giannutri, based on a decree of the Tuscany region that is reissued every year. The operator requires a self-declaration for it.
Check-in
Maregiglio expects foot passengers at the terminal 20 minutes before departure, and 30 minutes before with a car or motorbike. The operator issues tickets at its desk in the port of Porto Santo Stefano.
