Ginostra is the second berth on the volcanic island of Stromboli in the Aeolian Islands and lies on its south-west side, away from the main village. From here you can reach 12 destinations, among them Milazzo and Messina on Sicily, the neighbouring islands of Lipari, Panarea, Salina and Vulcano, and Naples. Together the services run up to 69 departures a day, and crossings take between 15 minutes and 11.25 hours. The port is served by Liberty Lines and Siremar.
Getting there and the terminal
There is no journey by road: no road leads to Ginostra, and the village can only be reached by sea. Caronte & Tourist, which operates the Siremar ferries, lists a single berth for Ginostra; the basin is so small that it counts as the smallest harbour in the world. In rough seas no landing is made and the call is dropped. Ticket sales are correspondingly thin: Liberty Lines lists its Ginostra desk as seasonally closed, and the agency for Stromboli and Ginostra is in the main village of Stromboli. So buy your ticket beforehand.
